Source Note Design for Assistant-Supported Research
A source note makes a research finding easier to inspect by connecting the claim, publisher, date, scope, and limitation.
Headline signal: 5 source-note fields: claim, publisher, date, scope, limit (Google Search Central: Creating helpful content).
Methodology: a source note distinguishes reported evidence from local interpretation. The fields are designed for a manager who needs to check a claim quickly.
Write the claim in the same scope as the source, then record the publisher, canonical URL, publication or update date, geography, population, and definition that matter to the sentence.
Add one limitation when the source cannot establish the broader conclusion a reader might infer. A national measure, for example, should not be presented as a prediction about one worker or team.
Keep the note adjacent to the article’s Sources section and link each material statistic to the source that actually supports it. Generic homepages and duplicate links do not improve evidence.
