Content Research Calendar and Cluster Design
A research content calendar works when topics map to audience questions, source opportunities, internal links, and a clear editorial owner.
Headline signal: 4 planning fields: intent, evidence, owner, next action (Google Search Central: Creating helpful content).
Methodology: we use audience intent and evidence availability as planning filters. A topic is accepted only when it answers a real question, can be supported, and has a defined next action for the reader.
Build clusters from the site services, workflows, pain points, comparisons, and use cases. Keep one primary question per article and reserve broader synthesis for a hub page.
For each candidate record search intent, working title, unique slug, reader promise, authoritative sources, internal links, review owner, and planned update date. Reject candidates that duplicate an existing title or path.
A defensible article distinguishes sourced facts, calculations, interpretation, and recommendation. Tables should identify units, dates, denominators, and source notes so readers can inspect the number.
Review the calendar monthly for overlap, stale sources, missing service coverage, and topics that attract readers but do not help them make a decision. Replace weak candidates before drafting.
